Baby sweaters are the perfect way to get comfortable with making garments. Using all of the same techniques as you would for an adult size, baby sweaters allow you to learn more in a shorter amount of time. “The Gift” is a sweet top down cardigan with a lace yoke and lace detailing at the hem and cuffs. You will learn how to read a lace pattern as it pertains to garment construction. We will also go over how to pick up stitches for sleeves, how to create button holes, and how to sew on buttons.
First Session: We will begin the sweater, covering the lace yoke and getting you comfortable reading the lace pattern for the hem of the sweater.
Second Session: We will go over how to pick up stitches for the sleeves. Additionally, we will discuss button bands and sewing on buttons.
Skills Required: Able to cast on, knit, purl, and bind off; you must also be comfortable knitting in the round on a small circumference. Some experience knitting lace is recommended but not necessary; our Lace Basics or Next Step Lace classes are perfect to get you comfortable with lace!
Materials: 241-361 yards of a DK or worsted weight yarn (amount will depend on size chosen), US size 6 32” circular needles, US size 4 32” circular needles, US size 6 DPNs, US size 4 DPNs, and enough buttons to correspond with desired amount of button holes.
A copy of the pattern “The Gift” by kiddiwinksknits will be provided with the class.
